Bidding wars are back!

Posted by Lindsay Leigh on May 5, 2012

Bidding wars are back, Baby! Across the country home buyers are discovering steep competition with some sellers getting dozens of offers as soon as they list their property. Why the sudden shift? Market analyzers say it’s a combination of low mortgage rates and job stabilization. Rents are also at an all time high which are making home buying more attractive. The bottom is over and it’s time to BUY!

West Broadway Neighborhood Assoc needs your vote!!

Posted by Lindsay Leigh on April 4, 2012

The WBNA has been named a “Top 20 National Finalist”
for Odwalla’s “Plant a Tree” program!

The top 10 VOTE winners will be funded!
Help The WBNA win $10,000.00 to plant trees on
The South Boston Harborwalk by voting for our project on the Odwalla web site:

www.odwalla.com/plantatree

Our project is called “Harborwalk Forestation”.

This project would partner WBNA, Southie Trees, S.B. Youth Ambassadors with Boston Natural Areas Network and the Boston Urban Forest Council to bring new trees and plantings to this much neglected area. Bringing the expertise of BNAN and The BUFC, along with other community groups into a project to make improvements into this long neglected space between The Jimmy Kelly and  W4th Street Bridges could be the beginnings of reclaiming this park as an asset to be used and cherished by all Boston residents.

Thank you to Odwalla for selecting this project as a “Top 20 National Project”. Lets get out the VOTE and show them our commitment to trees! Please share with your friends and other social media group pages. Voting ends 5/31/12.

First+First partners with local artists!

Posted by Lindsay Leigh on March 3, 2012

Broadway Village and First+First are proud to be collaborating with local South Boston artists to showcase their work in our First+First model unit.

We are so excited to be showcasing work from Artists for Humanity and local South Boston resident Carrie Howder.  Here is little something something about our artists!

Carrie Howder

Carrie is a self-taught abstract expressionist artist who uses mostly acrylic paints in her work.  She is originally from Minnesota living her formidable years in Arizona.  She now resides in South Boston and feels extremely fortunate to live by the ocean, which she loves.  While walking the Castle Island loop, she likes to sit at the Sugar Bowl and watch the sun reflect off the water.  The harmony of the sunlight, the clouds passing over head, the wind rippling the waves creates a colorful palette that inspires her work. Sheis inspired by Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Helen Frankenthaler, Ronnie Landfield & other stain painters.

Artists for Humanity (AFH) provides underserved Boston teens with the keys to self-sufficiency through paid employment in the arts.  AFH teen artists share their artwork through public exhibitions.  We are excited for Eddie McColgan, youth artist and assistant mentor, to be featured at the new First+First Townhomes located on intersection of East First Street & Dorchester Street.  Please join us tomorrow evening for the unveiling of the model unit as we celebrate new art and architecture in our local  community.

Where else but Southie this St. Patty’s weekend?

Posted by Lindsay Leigh on March 3, 2012

Even with our mild winter, St. Patty’s Day for many of us officially commemorates the beginning of Spring.  South Boston boasts one of the largest parades in the country.  At least 600,000 people are expected to line the streets of Southie on March 18th to watch the parade that was first celebrated in 1901.

The parade starts at 1pm and begins at the West Broadway T stop and continues up West Broadway, then through the streets of City Point and eventually ending up at the Andrew Square T stop.  This is a time honored tradition in Southie and we are proud to host such a beloved event!

For more information check out the South Boston Parade Website at:

See you there!
